All-Star 2008 3-point Shootout Challenge

This year 3-point contest is filled with big names and reputable 3-point shooters. Two former MVPs, Steve Nash and Dirk, Rip Hamilton, Defending Champion Jason Kapono and two-time shootout champion, Peja Stojakovic.

This year champion : Jason Kapono
He made a record-tying of 25 points.

Kapono missed his first two shots in the last round before dropping 10 straight. By the time he approached the last rack of balls, Kapono had already clinched the win and didn't have to fire up another shot.

But he knocked down a few more anyway, matching three-time winner Craig Hodges' mark of 25 set in 1986. When his final shot swished through, Kapono, who made all five money balls — worth two points apiece — and went 20-for-25 in the last round, slapped high-fives with other All-Stars and hugged Raptors teammate Chris Bosh.

Check out the overall recap of All-Star 2008 3 point Shootout:

All-Star Dunk Contest 2008 Recap

Finally, the contest and the hype surrounding it is over. Only one man truly puts his words where his mouth is,to bring something different to the table.

Dwight Howard - 2008 All-Star Dunk Champion

Rudy Gay and Jamario Moon, both were hyping up the contest via Youtube videos fall short in proceeding past the first round and it was left down to Gerald Green,2007 defending champion, vs Dwight Howard.

Many felt Dwight Howard were robbed of his 2007 dunk contest but this year he swore that he is gonna win this one for the 'Big Men'. And he certainly did it --- in style.

Howard wore a blue Superman tunic and red cape on a first-round alley-oop dunk after having electrified the crowd by slamming in a left-handed dunk after first bouncing the ball off the rear side of the backboard.

"People like to see that. They don't want to see the same old dunk. People want something with some spice," Howard said. "This year all the guys tried to bring some spice to the dunk contest."

Howard, who will start for the Eastern Conference in Sunday's 57th NBA All-Star Game, received perfect scores of 50 for both first-round dunks to advance while Memphis' Rudy Gay and Toronto's Jamario Moon were eliminated.

"The first one I've been working on it for about two years but I could never really get it down. I had my legs under me and got it down," Howard said.

"The Superman dunk, I wanted to get the crowd into it, put some of my personality in it with the Superman cape. To make the dunk after that was unbelievable. The cape and the Superman outfit, I think it really worked."

Gerald Green got some tricks up his sleeve too with this unbelivable Birthday's Cake Dunk.

However, he wasn't able to up the ante later on despite taking his shoes off for one of his dunk.

However, the whole event was a night to remember and had been the most fun Slam Dunk Contest i seen in a long long time.

Hooptube's Star of the night: David West

Talk about doing it all. David West can play post, run point adequately, posseses a nice shooting touch and is a dominant presence for the Hornets this season.

After an impressive form for the Hornets, David West was called up for the All-Star game. However, all was not swell for David West because critics were fiercely unimpressed by this call-up. They felt there were other more deserving player than West to be selected.

Davd West just kept his silence amongst the chaos and continue to play his game. Today, he brought his whole arsenal of skills to the Memphis game and promptly showed the media that the All-Star call-up was definitely not a fluke.

He scored 33 points and had ten rebounds. He was not stingy with his compliments too and was quick not to take all the credits.

"We've got the ability to score whether he's(Chris Paul) hitting or not,'' West said. "You've just got to give him opportunities to find you and he'll find you.''

Hooptube's Star of the night: Leon Powe

Leon Powe with the last-second shot which won the game for the Celtics. This game was played at pulsating pace and an electrifying atmosphere due to the return of their prodigal son, Kevin Garnett. Sadly, he was unable to play due to injury. He was introduced ahead of the game and was promptly given a 2 min standing ovation. However, he returned to the dressing room to view the game and the attention was returned to the young Wolves team.

Al jefferson was hitting the board and being efficient as usual.Sebastian Telfair wasn't hitting his shot but was excellent in running the point, doing his fancy passes. Credits to this young team for sparring up to the Celtics who got Ray allen and Peirce carrying the team.

Nevertheless, there were only heartbreaks for Wolves when Leon Powe made the last bucket of the game just before the buzzer sounded. However, Wolves's fan should go home with a satisfied heart as they had witnessed tonight what their team is capable of and maybe with more time, this team could be the Blazers or the Hawks of this season.
